Social isolation can be a result when there is lack of communication. Communication is important to people who have hearing loss or speech difficulty and to their loved ones. It impacts employment and independence for a person when telephone communication is avoided due to hearing loss or speech difficulties. Telecommunications Access Iowa (TAI) & Relay Iowa have solutions to support telephone communication for people who are Deaf, deaf-blind, hard of hearing, or who have difficulty speaking. TAI provides vouchers to help pay for equipment ranging from amplified phones to wireless devices with specialized apps, while Relay Iowa’s solutions include relay services such as Captioned Telephone or Speech to Speech Relay.
