Spencer Municipal Utilities (“SMU”) is a secure, well-financed municipally owned utility provider that has proudly met the electric and water needs of local Spencer, Iowa residents since 1942. Telecommunication service offerings were added to the service mix in 1997, and today SMU provides the residential and business community with a full range of voice, video, and data services.
 
SMU is actively seeking a full-time Telecommunications Manager to join our management team. Reporting directly to the General Manager/CEO, this position has complete responsibility for planning, directing, and managerial oversight of our telecommunications utility as well as cybersecurity initiative for the entire utility. Our network is 100% fiber to the premise delivering Broadband Internet, Managed Wi-Fi, Voice, IPTV Video, Hosted Business Phone Solutions and more. We are seeking an organizational leader with experience leading a customer-focused operation. The position is responsible for analyzing and evaluating network operations and maintenance plus making recommendations for service improvement. The position will ensure compliance with telecommunications regulations and directives of government regulatory agencies. This position will fulfill supervisory responsibilities with a team of approximately eight staff members in accordance with SMU’s policies and applicable laws.
 
Our Requirements:
· High School Diploma or GED, or equivalent
· Telecommunications industry experience with previous leadership or management roles preferred
· Telecommunications industry experience preferred
· An associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
·A strong set of communications and interpersonal skills that are equally effective with staff, management, and Board of Trustees.
·Intermediate to advanced experience with Microsoft Office products including Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, Access, and SharePoint is desired.
·Required to possess and maintain a valid Iowa driver’s license and meet SMU insurability requirements
·Residency requirement to reside within a 30-minute response time to the office
