Citizens Mutual

The public-private partnership between area counties and Citizens Mutual Telephone Cooperative is an excellent example of how local investment can provide significant impact to area residents and businesses.

Davis County supported Citizen's fiber build with $110,000 to support their Empower Rural Iowa Broadband Grant application for rural Davis County.

Additionally, Wapello County supported the company's fiber build with $775,000 to support an Empower Rural Iowa Broadband Grant application for rural Wapello County. The county supported a second broadband grant opportunity with an additional $800,000

Premier Communications

Plymouth County supported Premier Communications with $2.4 million as part of Premier's Empower Rural Iowa Broadband Grant application for areas around Brunsville, Craig, Struble and Le Mars, IA. Without the support received from the county, Premier would not have been able to accept the state grant and rural residents would not have received high-speed broadband service.

FarmTel Communications

Henry County supported FarmTel Communications with $700,000 using ARPA funds. FarmTel was able to get all rural residents within the project areas connected to fiber in less than one year from the time of receiving county funds.

Dumont Telephone Company

Butler County supported Dumont Telephone with $200,000 as part of Dumont's Empower Rural Iowa Broadband Grant application. The total project connected 790 locations utilizing 284 miles of fiber.

Western Iowa Networks

Mills County supported Western Iowa Networks with $1.5 million in a public-private partnership to jointly build fiber to two underserved communities within the county. The build, which was completed in 2021, allowed all communities except one to have fiber to the home. Mills County has been proactive and invested in ensuring their county has future proof and reliable networks.
